Summary:
Request that renewal claim of 2-9-88 be backdated to 26-6-88. Last benefit cheque received dated 28-7-88. Short delay in issue. Out of country for 2 or 3 weeks. Not alarmed by the interruption of cheques. Waiting for CEIC to take some action. This conclusion was reasonably open to the Umpire.

Summary:
This is particularly so in light of GAGNON where the Supreme Court said that where two interpretations of provisions of the UI Act are possible, the worker must be given the benefit of the doubt, taking into account the purpose of the Act is to compensate workers who are involuntarily unemployed.
