There is no chapter in the Digest paralleling this main issue. Work Sharing is a voluntary program under which an agreement is struck between the employer and employees and subject to approval by the Commission. The purpose of an approved agreement is to allow for work sharing benefits during a temporary period of general reduction in weekly hours of work. There are particular regulatory rules regarding the payment of such benefits. Selected decisions under this main issue reflect relevant jurisprudential interpretations in regard to the application of the EI legislation governing work sharing agreements and benefits.
