According to Laprise (A-1009-90), which in turn is based on the ruling in Bérubé (A-986-88), work cannot be defined as volunteer work when it has been demonstrated that the worker derived, or hoped to derive, some advantage or profit from the work. Volunteer work implies disinterest.
